Intro Foundations Class
You read in the news how important strength training is.
You hop on Instagram and see a million different exercises, styles, programs, and templates.
So, you pick one and start.
You’re not totally sure if you’re doing it right… so you go back online, find something new, or take a break altogether and try something completely different a few weeks later.
It’s a cycle we all fall into.
And honestly? Most of what’s out there is pretty good.
There’s amazing information online.
The issue isn’t bad content—it’s that everyone is fighting for your attention. And when your attention gets pulled in every direction, the two things that actually matter most in training become really hard to hold onto.
1. Consistency.
Nothing works without it. Your body needs repetition—patterns repeated over and over again—so it can adapt and eventually move with enough effort to actually build strength and muscle.
2. The basics.
This part’s tricky. Because being a beginner sucks.
But if you look at high-level athletes, they’re still doing the same drills they did when they started out. Just with more skill, more intent, and more capacity.
If we don’t get really solid at the basics, we can’t safely work at the intensity that real growth needs.
Bottom line?
Get good at the basics, keep showing up, get better at them. Rinse and repeat.
That’s what we’re doing at Uptown Movement.
Our Foundations classes are where it starts—not because they’re easy, but because they’re essential to getting good at the basics and build a habit of showing up.
We slow things down. We build awareness. We get you connected to your body.
But the movements we practice? They stay the same regardless of the class, you just get stronger and the basics become concepts not exercises.
Regardless of which class you are in, we just build on those basics:
We squat and pick things up to build strong legs and spines.
We push and pull to build strong shoulders.
We crawl, carry, hang, and climb to integrate that strength into movements we humans are designed to do!
Getting stronger and more mobile is a lifetime pursuit. There’s no finish line.
So don’t rush the process, Trust the process.
If you stay curious, if you stay consistent and keep a lifelong beginner mindset you will build strength, gain muscle, move better, and feel more at home in your body than you did a decade ago.
It’s simple. Just not easy.
