Handstand workshop

Description

This workshop is for beginner and intermediate level students and will focus mastering the foundational exercises for handstand.  For intermediate students, this will help to clean up and correct any dysfunctional movement patterns that are preventing progress towards press handstand work.  And for beginners, this will offer a set of tools and exercises that will massively increase strength and confidence when preparing to go upside down––even if this is your first time.

With an emphasis on wrist and shoulder prep, conditioning drills, and a thorough explanation of proper mechanics, the workshop will help students to develop both the strength and coordination necessary to find easeful balance on their hands.  Specifically, we will review:

  • Various ways to safely exit/bail as a means to overcome the fear factor and reduce the risk of injury

  • Proper Handstand alignment: the mechanics necessary to achieve it and how to improve upon them

  • Mobility specific to hand balancing

  • Various entrances to handstand and how to become more consistent when jumping in

  • How to use the wall in a way that promotes progress towards balance rather than dependence

  • Injury prevention and longevity

Expect to walk away with a complete repertoire of exercises that will bring rapid progress towards finding lightness on your hands!
